‌Skills in Development Education

This participatory course comprises of seven evening modules and a one day practical workshop that aim to equip participants with the skills and methodologies to work effectively with groups on global development and social justice issues in a friendly, informal environment. At the end of the course, participants will be prepared to facilitate at training days and development education workshops.

This course is aimed at people with a demonstrated interest in development education or global justice issues, returned volunteers (from any organisation) and students, staff or graduates of UCD. Participants should have some level of knowledge of global issues or experience of living, working or volunteering in the Global South but facilitation experience is not required.

Course Details for 2020

The course will run from 6:00pm to 8.30pm on Tuesday evenings on the following dates: 21st Jan, 28th Jan, 4th Feb, 11th Feb, 18th Feb, 25th Feb, Saturday 29th February (full day) and 10th March​.

The course is organised by UCD Volunteers Overseas in partnership with Comhlámh.

Over the course of the 7 weeks participants will explore global development and social justice issues by way of theatre, storytelling, social cartography, movement & play, debate and more and nurture and develop the kinds of skills that help us to facilitate and hold space for others: active listening, empathy, non-judgement, reflexivity, curiosity & out of the box thinking among others. Total Fee: €15.00 non-refundable [payable in cash only on the first night]
