Team Leader Role

Are you interested in global justice and development issues? Do you enjoy working with student groups and working overseas? If so, participating in our programme as a Team Leader might be for you.

 Team Leaders shoud meet the following criteria:

• Either UCD Staff member, graduate, post graduate, mature student or external to UCD with experience in a relevant field
• Experience working/volunteering in a developing country
• Some leadership experience
• Confident and outgoing
• Ability to give instructions and encourage team work
• Good with managing finances
• Ability to commit to the Programme for the Year and has sufficient free time at weekends/evenings to assist with project preparation
• Enjoys working with student groups

The role of the Team Leader is to assist the UCDVO Manager in making all the necessary preparations for a specific country programme in either India, Nicaragua, Tanzania or Uganda. Team Leaders work closely with the volunteer teams throughout the year for pre-departure training and development education workshops; participate in project implementation for 4 weeks overseas, and assist with programme evaluation on return.

It is preferable that Team Leaders are aged 24 or over. Candidates who can demonstrate experience in leadership roles and development/volunteer work are particularly encouraged to apply. Team Leaders are provided with numerous opportunities and professional development support via their participation in the UCDVO programme, e.g. leadership training, opportunities to travel to the project country for planning (costs covered), opportunities to engage in development education and health and safety courses.

Please note this is a voluntary role and Team Leaders are asked to cover thier programme costs (€1,600). This can be done through fundraising or sponsorship.
