UCD Volunteers Overseas

Leadership Roles

Each volunteer project has Team Leaders and Student Leaders. 

Team Leaders

  • UCD Staff member or graduate / development worker
  • Aged 24 or above
  • Experience living or working/volunteering in a developing country
  • Some leadership experience
  • Confident and outgoing
  • Ability to give instructions and encourage team work
  • Good with managing finances
  • Ability to commit to Programme for the Year and has sufficient free time at weekends/evenings to assist with project preparation
  • Enjoys working with student groups

Applications for the 2015/16 Programme are now closed. Applications for the 2016/17 Programme will open in September 2016.

 

Student Leaders:

  • UCD students who have volunteered on UCDVO projects in the past
  • Enthusiastic about learning more about the logistical planning of UCDVO projects and getting involved in project preparation
  • Confident and outgoing
  • Good organisational sk ills and can use own initiative
  • Ability to commit to the Programme for the Year and has sufficient free time at weekends/evenings to assist with project preparation

Physiotherapy Clinical Tutors:

  • Chartered physiotherapist
  • Minimum 3 years clinical experience or relevant experience in a developing country context
  • Highly motivated, patient, dynamic, enthusiastic and enjoys working with students
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ideally have some experience volunteering or working in a developing country context (this is desirable but not essential)
  • Be in a position to commit to 4 weeks working overseas and to commit to pre-departure training and debriefing workshops as well as completing assessment forms, project reports and evaluations

The UCD School of Public Health, Physiotherapy and Sports Science (SPPSS) and UCDVO have a partnership in place to offer elective placements to Stage 3 BSC and Stage 2 MSc physiotherapy students. These placements are currently available in Uganda and India. The School provides funding for Clinical Tutors to travel with the students in a leadership role.
