Be the Change -A journey into solidarity and change making
“Be the Change - a journey into solidarity” is a 5-part evening course (1 orientation and 4 sessions) for those looking to deepen their understanding of solidarity and engage in meaningful action for change. The course introduces participants to tools for thinking expansively about the drivers of injustice. In tandem with this and through group process, participants build self-awareness as well as motivation to step further into social movements/spaces for change. The course offers participants space to self-reflect and to consider how that self connects to the wider social body; to open up and stay with challenging topics; to learn through and with others as part of a community on campus.

A key element of “Be The Change” is the involvement of guest contributors from social movements across Ireland. These guest contributors kick-start course sessions, providing rich points of reference for group learning, challenging participants to think beyond ‘helping’ or ‘saving’ others and offering impetus for critical thinking, reflection and action. Previous guest contributors have included MASI (the Movement of Asylum Seekers Ireland), Afri and the community tenants union, CATU.
This is an interactive course, incorporating methodologies which work with mind and body. If you wish to learn more about these methodologies prior to applying, please contact zoe.liston@ucd.ie
