Fundraising
Participants in the volunteer programme are required to meet a minimum fundraising target and to cover costs of flights, visas and vaccinations. See details below. The UCDVO team and members of the Student Society are available to offer support and guidance on ways to fundraise.
As a charity seeking donations from the public, UCD Volunteers Overseas aims to comply with the Guidelines for Charitable Organisations Fundraising from the Public issued by the Charities Regulator in 2017. Our pledge is to treat all our donors with respect, honesty and openness. We commit to being accountable and transparent so that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in UCD Volunteers Overseas.

Fundraising Targets
Volunteers participating in the programme have a minimum fundraising target of €1,850 which must be reached according to the schedule of targets set out by UCDVO. This fundraising target is for each participant, but project teams may join forces to fundraise as a group.
The €1,850 raised will be allocated as follows:
- Partner programmes and project costs (including accommodation, transport, food, water etc.): €1,500
- UCDVO programme administration (overseas travel insurance, health and safety, monitoring and evaluation): €350
Fundraising Target Dates for the 2023 Programme:
Deposit of €150 due by 16 January 2023 – this is required to hold your place.
- €850 due by 31st March 2023
- €850 due by 26th May 2023
Other Costs
Volunteers are also required to cover the cost of flights and visas and any other personal costs.
UCDVO will find the best value flights via its travel agent and share a payment link with participants in February/March. Volunteers will need to arrange payment directly with the travel agent using the payment link shared. Only flights selected by UCDVO can be booked and all volunteers must travel on the same outbound flight. Flights are estimated to be between €950 to €1,250, but this could change by early 2023.
Visa requirements vary depending on citizenship. UCDVO will provide details but the responsibility for securing visa is on the individual.
Other costs such as vaccinations, are the responsibility of each participant.
UCDVO will provide guidance and support for individuals/teams in fundraising.
Accountability
As a charity seeking donations from the public, UCD Volunteers Overseas aims to comply with the Guidelines for Charitable Organisations Fundraising from the Public issued by the Charities Regulator in 2017. Our pledge is to treat all our donors with respect, honesty and openness. We commit to being accountable and transparent so that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in UCD Volunteers Overseas.
As a charity, UCDVO is accountable for all funds raised from the public in support of its charitable purpose. Charitable funds received from public donations cannot be returned to volunteers (even if a project is cancelled) and must be used for the charitable purpose for which it was donated.
All funds raised in the name of UCDVO must be lodged to the UCDVO bank account. If volunteers raise funds over their target, the additional funds must be lodged and will be used by the charity to further support the work of our overseas partners.
