Be the Change -A journey into solidarity and change making

This is a 5-part evening course for those looking to deepen their understanding of solidarity and engage in meaningful action for change. The course introduces participants to tools for thinking more expansively about interlinking justice issues whilst building self-knowledge as well as courage to step further into social movements/ spaces for change.

As part of the course participants will have the opportunity to encounter activists from social movements in Ireland - to learn from them about why they work on the issues they do and what participation means to them. The course also offers a chance to form relationships of solidarity with others on the UCD campus.

A key aim of this course is building capacity to open up and stay in difficult conversations about difficult topics “without relationships falling apart”. Furthermore it asks learners to consider the impulse that can be there to want to ‘save’ or to ‘fix’, and what alternative ways of engaging look and feel like. Be The Change takes a group approach to learning and incorporates methodologies which work with mind and body.

Be the Change is run in partnership with Comhlámh and is open to all UCD students, staff and alumni. No prior experience in international volunteering or activism is required.
